Colima is a little Mexican state situated near the Pacific Ocean
that has many places that support tourism. Many people know about beaches, the volcano, the little towns that tourists
can visit; but not everybody knows some important facts that could save their lives: I'm talking about nature.
It's important to know what you can find here related to nature
because this can increase Colima's tourism. Sometimes not even the people who live here know about the nature they can find
in his state.
I would like to start talking about the animals that you
can find in Colima. This fauna include mammals, insects and fishes. I divided Colima's into two groups: poisonous and non-poisonous.
In the poisonous group most of them are insects. The most common
of them are scorpions. In Mexico there are many places where you can find scorpions (deserts, jungles) and Colima is one of
them, because of its weather. Scorpions like to live under stones, in old machines, little spaces and holes and fissures in
houses and they can crawl into your clothes and shoes. They eat insects like crickets and spiders; and they hunt them with
their poisonous sting that paralyzes their victims. Here in Colima there is a town called Tecoman where there are more of
these insects than anywhere else.
Many scorpions have stung humans, and most of those who were
stung have lived. There are many ways to counteract the poison. The most common is to go to a hospital and see a doctor; another
way is to buy an antivenom in the drug store. But the best way of saving you from a scorpion sting is to be careful. You should
check clothes and shoes before you wear them . If you have children, don't let them grab stones or play where a scorpion could
be hiding.
Snakes are not a big risk, because although there are many of
them, few are poisonous. But there is one that could be one of the most poisonous in the world, is called Black Coral. This
snake can be identified because its colors are red, yellow and black, and it is poisonousm (see picture below). There
is also a fake Coral, which is not poisonous, that has the same colors but in different order. It is very unusual to see poisonous
snake is seen in Colima.
In the sea there are many dangers, but the most common in Colima
are jellyfish. Those are like blue snots (the most common) and this animals stick to the skin and burn you. The contact will
not kill you, but it is painful. This can be cured with human urine in the wound.
Colima does not have many poisonous spiders, as do other places
in the world. In Colima there are many animals which aren't poisonous, but which are very ugly or disgusting, like iguanas.
These are large lizards that eat flowers and small insects. Although they are big, they aren't dangerous. Another reptile
that you can find in Colima are the "cuijas", that are smaller lizards that use to live in the houses and eats small insects
like mosquitoes and also scorpions. "Lagartijas" is another kind of non-poisonous lizard that lives and you can see all the
time in Colima. This one eats flowers and little insects. There are also mammals like "tlacuaches", which are ugly, huge rats
that live where there is a lot of grass or junk.
As you see, here in Colima
you can find many interesting animals, and most of them are not poisonous, although their appearance doesn't help them. I
started saying that not even the people who live here know about the risks about the animals, but it's necessary to know them
if you are going to visit us or only for curiosity.
