You can really enjoy the beloved tropical climate because the beaches of Tecomán seem like they were taken from a dream and its pretty lagoons too. In Tecomán you can visit the incredible grottoes of San Gabriel, the stalactites and stalagmites that needed decades to grow. The places mentioned before, are a marvel that you cannot forget. Also you can relax in the calm towns of Tecomán. So, come to see it!.

Playa El Real, located 10 km. south of Tecomán. It is an open sea, where you can enjoy good surfing with people of different countries. Also you can eat delicious seafood in the little restaurants of this special beach and to see the beautiful sky that gets a combination of pretty colors.

Playa Boca de Pascuales, 12 km. from Tecomán, a surfing beach for the experienced, it is one of the most famous meeting points of the great surfers, there you can see the amazing skill that the competitors have to win the precious trophy. Other Interesting Things About Tecomán

History - When the Spanish came to the area, this was inhabited by the ethnic group of the "Tecos". The "Tecos" had as their main locality the town of Caxitlan, 5 kilometers to the north from the actual train situation of Tecomán. Historically the "Valle de Tecomán" is considered the most important region of the Colima Kingdom.

In 1523 Tecomán was established near Caxitlan. The principal cause was the convenience of the Spanish to control the natives, obligating them to join themselves and to establish one town with the name of "Santiago de Tecomán". The name of "Santiago" was taken from one apostle that people venerated as the saint of the hospital in 1550. Tecomán was born as one autochthonous town and continued being like that and keeping its name of "Santiago de Tecomán" until the end of the 19th century.

The word "Tecomán" is of "náhuatl" origin. It is a combination of two words "Tecol" or "Tecolli" that means grandfather; and "man" that means place. So, both words together mean el lugar de nuestros abuelos -- the place of our grandfathers.

La Fiesta de la Calendaria o de la Purificación is a fair that stars on January 24 and ends on February 2. This fair has special expositions of agriculture, livestock and commerce. The food that you can enjoy there is really delicious. But I recommend the parties of dancing, you can dance with the excellent Mexican music.

On July 25th the workers of the camp celebrate "Santo Santiago", principal saint of the Tecoman´s Catholic Church. The May 15th the same workers celebrate to "San Isidro". In the "Cerro de Ortega" there is a celebration to "San Francisco" in October 4. In "Madrid" are important the parties of the "Virgen del Rosario" on October 7. In "Caleras" is celebrated "San Juan" with one exposition of agriculture. The parties of the "Virgen de Guadalupe" are significant, these are celebrated in "La Capilla De La Lupita" in December 12.
