An unusual dining experience - by Hector Olea Fimbres

Colima is a traditional state which has a lot of traditional places and activities, which include drinking much beer, listening to Mexican music and eating  Mexican snacks as the main dish. On the other hand, Mexico is characterized by its parties, good humor and great spirits.

In another part of the world it is hard to find a place that sums all these Mexican attractions, but not in Colima.

“El Fundador Restaurant - Tino” is located at the edge of Comala, a little village that is four kilometers away from Colima city, and it is the most traditional restaurant in Comala. In Colima this kind of restaurant is called “Botanero” because you don’t eat much food. That is, you only drink beer or any kind of alcohol and with those drinks comes some Mexican snacks like sopitos, flautas, enchiladas, tostadas, ceviche, vegetables and fruits. My favorite food are the flautas and enchiladas.

It is important to say that Comala has three “Fundadores”. Two are on the outskirts coming from Colima; and the other one is in Comala’s downtown. The best one and the one with the most fun is known as Tino, the one on the right hand coming into Comala from Colima.

The costs are relatively expensive, because you only pay for drinks; at the moment you order a drink you are receiving free snacks, so the drinks are a little expensive, but you eat very well. The average cost is from 70 to 150 pesos.

El Fundador is open from Wednesday to Monday; from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays If you have the opportunity to visit, don't miss it.
